WINES

August Ridge wines are grown and crafted to compliment but not overpower foods. The whites are crisp and clean; the reds robust and strongly balanced. Serve the whites chilled and allow them to slowly warm in order to bring out the subtle complexities. The reds are unfiltered and will be best served 30 minutes after decanting.  Salute per cento anni!

Jovial, 2006

$42.00

A Super Tuscan style blend of 69% Sangiovese, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot. The Angelo DeAngelis signature wine, Jovial, is like its namesake: lively, complex and wonderful to have in your life. The nose will delight you with cherry, dried plum and just a touch of lavender. There is a long smooth mouth feel that highlights integrated grape and barrel tannins with a strong acid structure and long finish. The flavors are of dark stone fruits moving to dried cherry, plum, and tobacco with a hint of leather. Drink it now with a steak, lasagna, vegetarian pizza (add pepperoni), or aged nutty cheeses. Cellar for the coming three to five years to increase complexity and then combine with wild mushrooms, creamy caramelized onion risotto or osso bucco. Jovial is well suited to wild game such as boar, elk or venison.

Ingenious, 2006

$44.00

Ingenious is a Nebbiolo based blend that includes 22% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its signature, August Zamborelli, was a complex man of incredible engineering talent – he could create nearly anything from nothing and his mark has been left across his adopted country of southern Colorado. The nose is a blending of complex spices and dark berries. The flavors are subtle strawberries & raspberries complemented with exotic spicy elements and an undercurrent of white pepper. A powerful complement of tannin and acid create a crisp, palate cleansing finish. Drink it now with nutty cheese, antipasti, pork and steak. Don’t fear to pair it with the savory flavors of grilled salmon or a whole roasted chicken. As its complexity increases with age pair it with game birds, pork and dried fruit or wild mushroom sauces.

Sangiovese, 2005

$33.00

Our 2005 Sangiovese is made as a full bodied Italian style wine. In the glass it shows a saturated bright ruby color that hints of the wine’s backbone. The aroma carries with it the deeper essence of dried cherries, caramel and dark chocolate. A full mouthfeel is complimented by balanced acids and tannins overlaid with flavors of cherry, dried stone fruits and leather. The acid and tannins sustain through the finish and will easily clear the palate of heavy, complex and spicy sauces or richer meats. Will pair well with thick tomato sauces, rich meats, game, dark fowl, sharp cheeses and nuts.
